Take heart. Millions share the vision.

Dear Friends,

The news this morning is devastating. It is not what we worked and hoped for. It seems to me that watching and/or listening to the despair of the national media is not helpful.

In this new day, let us first take gentle care of our hearts and our spirits.  Go to whatever and whoever we know to be healing and nurturing. Maybe friends, maybe solitude. Maybe music, or poetry, or nature or dogs or painting or knitting or pickleball… whatever it is! May we find ways to be kind and gentle with ourselves and with friends who may also be struggling. Challenging days are coming which will require our best insight and wisdom, courage and compassion. To despair is to acquiesce.  Taking care of our hearts is the first and necessary step in resistance.

I am also giving thanks this morning for the gift that Kamala Harris has given us… a renewed vision of what American can and should be becoming. She helped us hear and see that vision more clearly, and how many of our fellow Americans share the vision and are willing to give their time and energy and money to bring it to fruition. How many? Millions. In the coming days, we will need to figure out how to hold on to that vision and take it forward. The first step, today, is taking care of ourselves and healing our hearts and spirits.
